Small Demons - What a clever little devil!!

There's an amazing, beautiful, new online resource currently beta testing on the internet. It's called Small Demons, and because the basic premise is a tricky thing to put succinctly into text (it's essentially simple but so layered and intricate that to break its premise down to a basic point is pretty much impossible) watch this video.

So essentially it will map out all the details in a book, from restaurants mentioned, to other books, historical figures, albums, music artists, films, places of interest. And then it will link them with other books.

Now is it just us or does this mean that, should this take off, novels are going to become hotly sought after media spaces? With brands, record labels, new film releases etc fighting for the most mentions in the most books that will create the most links? A second revenue stream for authors? Announce to media planners that they're writing a new novel and they plan to feature two soft drinks heavily - references available to the highest bidder?

It probably is just us. But it is a really innovative use of search and database technology, and shows another way in which old school media is being updated, disrupted, and enhanced by new media and online developments.

In reality it probably won't impact brands directly, but no doubt media agencies and advertising companies will find ways of utilising this tool creatively, because it is a creative tool.

And as lifestyle resources go it's definitely the best we've seen here at Undercurrent for some time. Other than this blog of course.
