Google Are Taking Over The World...

...of mobile devises.
Last week saw the Mobile World Congress descend upon
Barcelona, like a cloud of technology.
There have, as always, been many highlights of the event - for
instance one of the Samsung delegates accidently pouring coffee
onto his herbal teabag instead of hot water, or an AV assistant
asking a conference centre employee where the nearest loo was only
to discover he was standing literally directly in front of it - are
two examples that spring instantly to mind. But as well as that
kind of incredible high jinks, there was the unveiling by Google of
their plans to take over the world, of mobile platform devises.
At the event, hundreds of Android-powered devices were on full
display and Google's Executive, Eric Schmidt, declared his
company's platform to be the market leader.
"It is the fastest growing mobile ecosystem," Schmidt commented.
He went on to claim that 300,000 Android-based phones are being
activated each day (that's more than twice the population of York,
and York was capital of the Roman empire for a while, under Emperor
Hadrian, when he was building his wall) and more than 170 Android
compatible devices are on the market.
The only real obstacle Google faces is fragmentation - as new
devises are developed with unique needs and features some may
require specific platforms. However with the introduction soon of
the Gingerbread system (Androids more flexible upgrade) this will
be less of a problem.
So whilst the manufactures were scrapping it out, the real
winner was Google, with a plethora of compatible phones represented
on all of the major brands stands.
And what of the Android stand itself? Well, it was a mini
mock-up of Google's famous Mountain View headquarters, with a huge
Android slide and smoothie bar, and apparently it looked amazing.
Still, Undercurrent could probably have made it look better.
