Leave your wallet at home, the mobile has taken over with facebook and NFC...

Yesterday Undercurrent assisted Starbucks with the launch of the new 'facebook Deals' service that looks set to continue the expansion of a brands ability to communicate with consumers on the move...

The service, launched in the US last November but for iPhone only, means consumers can 'check-in' with various retailers to receive big discounts on products and services. Brands currently signed up include Starbucks, Mazda and Argos.

Also launching over the next 3-6 months is the payment via your mobile service using Near Field Communication (NFC). Simply put, you will be able to use your phone as a credit/debit card for small ticket items.

As brands and the advertising industry continues the march towards new and innovative ways of communicating with their consumers, services like this will become more and more important. Currently in its infancy, the services are still fairly simplistic, but with the roll out of 4G mobile broadband, the world of digital interaction on the move looks set to explode over the next 12-18 months.

Once both services are working in tandem, the Wallets days are numbered and the world of consumer communication will be revolutionised! We are happy to be at the forefront of the wave!!

The facebook Deals UK roll out will be available for the iPhone, Android and Windows 7 operating systems via the 'facebook' app on your mobile phone. The NFC service will launch on Orange in the summer and there is a rumour of an O2 service later in the year.
