Colin the Christmas Mouse (Awww)
Friday, 12 November 2010
Well it's well and truly that time again. The Christmas ad
campaign season is beginning in earnest, with brands pulling out
all the stops to get us in the festive mood. Whether it's a huge
dollop of nostalgia (that's always a popular one), a reminder that
Christmas is a time for the kids (and we're all just kids inside so
get out there buy the biggest toys you can find - thanks Argos), or
some classic razzmatazz from M&S, the holiday season see's big
ad spends and big campaigns.
That's one of the reasons we love the new CPW campaign. In Colin
(the Christmas Mouse of course), they've thought small, and it
works.
Building on the success of the 'Walk Out Working' campaign, with
its mixture of live action and animation highlighting the magic of
all things smartphone, the 'Colin' slot feels like it's hit the
tone perfectly. The magic of the characters makes it feel like a
classic Christmas ad, but with the wit of a Pixar picture. And
Colin is so beautifully brought to life you can't help but smile as
he sheepishly offers up half of his well won mince pie to the
sleepy dad who's stumbled on the scene of Christmas eve
animation.
Even the Christmas synics among us can't help but feel the
pre-Christmas chill thawed slightly by Colin the Christmas Mouse,
and by any standards that's no bad thing.
So I guess now it's just a cast of bring on Santa. (Well, once
we've all got through next weeks CPW GPE that is).
